| dc.description.abstract | This paper presents preliminary results from the development of a Flight Simulation Model of a small-scale lift+cruise eVTOL, aimed at assessing Predicted Handling Qualities at low speeds. The study focuses on aerodynamic model development using a mid-fidelity solver. It investigates key phenomena, notably propeller interference and induc- tion on aircraft components, with significant findings on the horizontal stabilizer. Several modelling challenges are discussed related to the computation of stability derivatives. The static stability derivatives calculation methodology was confirmed, while dynamic stability derivatives revealed an unexpected frequency dependency that needs to be revised. The model will be used in the future to assess the uncertainty of the derivatives and investigate their impact on simulations. This work lays the foundations for further model development and fidelity assessment, contributing to credibility and supporting the demonstration of compliance with the handling quality requirements included in the Special Condition VTOL through simulation. | |
