Abstract

Hover prediction is a critical task in the helicopter's design phases. In this study, we propose a coupled framework utilizing DUST-MBDyn, which employs vortex particle methods. The method generally outperforms traditional CFD by avoiding the mesh generation and significantly reducing computational overhead. The framework is validated against the NASA hover testbed experiment by comparing the numerical predictions with experimental data. The results demonstrate that the framework not only overcomes the limitations of traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD), but also offers a computationally efficient and reliable solution for integration into optimization workflows.
